Allah' Says: Whosoever kills an innocent human being, it shall be as if he has killed all mankind, and whosoever saves the life of one, it shall be as if he had saved the life of all mankind. (5:32)
Prophet Mohammed(s) Said "By God, he is not a true believer,
from whose mischief his neighbors do not feel secure." (Bukhari, Muslim)
Islamic Concept of Jihad
In Literal Sense:
Al- Jihad is derived from the root word Juhdun meaning To Strive or To Stuggle
Al- Jihad means to strive or struggle between two parties .
In literal sense the word Al- Jihad is related even to the striving of the non-Muslims in the Glorious Qur'an-(31:15)
31.15: "But if they strive to make thee join in worship with Me things of which thou hast no knowledge obey them not; Yet bear them company in this life with justice (and consideration) and follow the way of those who turn to Me (in love): in the End the return of you all is to Me and I will tell you the truth (and meaning) of all that ye did."
In the Islamic Context:
Al- Jihad is not 100% synonym of Al- Qital i.e. to kill.
Al-Qital is just a form and part of Al- Jihad, but natural not against innocents.
Al-Jihad has many forms such as Counselling 66:9, 9:73, 25:52, Dawah ( to invite non-Muslims towards Islam) and islaah (to correct Muslims), and purification of soul. (Al mujahidu wal jahada nafsa).
66.9: O Prophet! strive hard against the Unbelievers and the Hypocrites and be firm against them. Their abode is Hell an evil refuge (indeed).
9.73: O Prophet! strive hard against the unbelievers and the Hypocrites and be firm against them. Their abode is hell an evil refuge indeed.
25.52: Therefore listen not to the Unbelievers but strive against them with the utmost strenuousness with the (Qur'an).
After doing a simple survey in the Quranic usage of word Al- Jihad even a layman can understand there are no weapons and arms involved in counselling, Dawah, Islaah, and purification of soul.
That is enough to prove Jihad does not mean only to kill.
Doing Jihad by Quran means to do Dawah and never can be to kill by Quran but natural.
Doing Jihad against Munafiq, since there is no evidence in the Prophet Muhammad(s)'s life that he (s) has waged a war against munafiq and it cannot be agreed that Prophet Muhammad(s) has not followed the command of Allah. As such Al-Jihad in this ayah means Dawah and Islaah, or Counselling. This ayah can never, never include the war of weapons or arms.
The important point, always to be note in the topic of Islamic Al-jihad, Al-jihad in the Islamic context means to hinder or stop the hand of oppressor (Zalim) irrespective of a Muslim or non-Muslim.. That means Jihad can be against Muslim oppressor also. Surah Hujrat surah no ,49 Aayah no. 9
The first war by Abu Bakr r.a. the 1st Caliph of Islam, was against those who did not give zakaat (mandatory charity) and the historical facts say they were not non-Muslims but they were Muslims.
